Legal Issues Research Task L01

Find an example of a media product for each of the following

1) TV Production - Friends
2) Social Media Campaign - Red Bull
3) Digital Animation - How To Train Your Dragon
4) Radio Production - BBC Radio 6
5) Graphic Novel - Ghost World
6) Digital Photographic Product - Nikon

The legal issues that should be considered in the creation of friends would be Data Protection Act, Copyright and Libel. These three legal issues should be considered in the production so that all of the staff and cast are safe and all their data is still safe and private for no one to find that shouldn't have it. Copyright should be considered for things such as products or music in the backgrounds of the filming so nothing is in the shots that could cause a problem, Libel for the last one because anything falsely published could put the whole company/TV show in danger or even shut down or removed from the internet. The regulators that would regulate this product would be BBFC with controls age ratings for the viewers so that no younger children will pick up on words the cast have to say and don't repeat them.

The legal issues that should be considered for the digital animation 'How To Train Your Dragon' are copyright and data protection act, these should reconsidered because of how famous the animation is and needing to keep all of the data safe and private of everyone that helped in the production of this animation, copyright as well if they have a soundtrack so they don't get in trouble for playing anyone else's music without permission. The regulator that regulate this product would be BBFC as it needs an age rating for the audience and children viewing.

The legal issues that should be considered for BBC Radio 6 are Data Protection Act and Intellectual Property Right. Data Protection is one of the main ones because most radio stations have contests and have people calling in so the radio stations need to make sure they keep all numbers safe and not share them on a live broadcast for thousands of people to get. Intellectual Property Right so that if they are playing other artists music they will still get the recognition for the music. The regulators that would regulate this would be OFCOM so that all competitions are entered correctly and no money is stolen.

The legal issues that should be considered for Ghost World are libel and copyright, libel because if anything is falsely accused on the lines of one of the characters being based on someone without them knowing could take the comic to court or even have to create a new character. Copyright because they could use another character from a different film or comic that has already been created and making money for another company, film or comic. The regulators that would regulate this would be independent press which is magazine and newspaper.

The legal issue that should be considered for Nikon are Data Protection Act for all the staff as there will be advertisers to tell everyone about all the new cameras and need to make sure that during the advertisements nothing is given out during or after the production.
